Tyrian Marathon Event
I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to post this, but I don't think it should go in the "official" in-game events until I find out if there is any interest in it.
Tyrian Marathon Event
"The Moral Crusaders guild is staging a race across Tyria! This marathon race will cover the entire continent of Tyria: the only way to win is to successfully complete all Prophecies missions, including the bonus objectives."
Read more at the wiki page.
I would appreciate any advice on the event or on event hosting in general. Thanks for looking.

Wrong section (Sardelac - which is for suggestions), there's a forum meant for guild announcements and events.
This "event" would be a time consuming event...

Concise: First person to rush through the entire game wins.
I'd rather have a contest to see who can beat the Factions mission Nahpui Quarter in the fastest time.

Interesting idea.
Three questions spring to mind though.
1) How much is the entry fee? How are Level 1 pre characters supposed to have it at that group photo op in the beginning?
2) Won't this turn into people rushing through pre, having friends and friends' heroes powering them through most everything, and using a few tomes to kill the Doubledoofus? Or is that the intention in the first place?
3) Why doesn't the race finish at Drok's, not Hell's Precipice? You wind up in Drok's after finishing Hell's, not back at the outpost. Time to go kneel before Glint and whatnot.

I read the wiki page, and I was wondering how exactly you expect players to pay the registration fee in pre searing...

First of all, thanks everyone for your replies.
1) How much is the entry fee? How are Level 1 pre characters supposed to have it at that group photo op in the beginning?
I am assuming anyone that wants to get in on the race will have at least one other character that could give the money in advance. I didn't pick an entry fee, because I don't really know yet what type of people would be interested. If it is a lot of experienced people, they would probably be okay with a higher entry fee with a possible higher payoff at the end. If a broader base wants to enter, the entry fee could be lower. If there are a significant amount of donations, we could probably do away with the entry fee altogether. Basically it is just there to make sure that the winners get something, even if the donations are lacking.
2) Won't this turn into people rushing through pre, having friends and friends' heroes powering them through most everything, and using a few tomes to kill the Doubledoofus? Or is that the intention in the first place?
I don't think there is any way to prevent this from happening, and thus it was part of my initial design consideration that guilds, heroes, tomes, scrolls, etc would be used. I think it's going to take a significant amount of time to complete, regardless.
3) Why doesn't the race finish at Drok's, not Hell's Precipice? You wind up in Drok's after finishing Hell's, not back at the outpost.
You are correct, the race should finish at the location you end up in, not the location you start from. I will change that.
Sounds cool but how can it be judged?
Since the only way to get a protector title is to complete every mission and bonus, if you see a character as level 1 in presearing at one time, and with the title a few hours later, this is verification that they finished the race. Unless a ton of people sign up (which I'm doubting just due to the time requirement), judging who gets to the final town first with the title shouldn't be too hard; additionally, there is the added rule that you should state that you've completed the race in town as soon as you get there, just in case it is an extremely close race.

Do you have to be lvl 20 at the end of the "event"?
Good idee for a event, and you can do this in just 1 day (way less)

I don't think it is a strict requirement, but getting every mission and bonus, including the ascension, is going to put you pretty close whether you're trying for it or not. And I would assume at least in some cases, it'd make things faster to have a character fighting instead of just waiting during a run.
wish I could enter but not enough time to do it
Keep in mind that so far no one has signed up as a participant, so your competition is looking pretty easy so far.
And remember that even if you think you could do it if you had a few breaks for dinner, napping, etc, that probably a lot of the other people that sign up are going to want the same thing, so it's not necessarily a deal-killer.
Just wondering can participants work together??
If you mean account sharing, I don't think Arenanet would like that. If you mean working with your guild/friends ahead of time to work out schedules/strategies for getting through the missions, no problem. If you mean visiting your friend's house and playing one character in shifts, I guess there is nothing wrong with that.

So guys, is this event even happening?
If so Peej, I am doing a Guild Wars Olympics, and was wondering if you would like to join me, so the marathon could be my marathon. What do you think?
